What Causes Blood In Stool?

default
Posted on Sat, 18 Oct 2014
Question: I live alone and most of the times end up eating food outside. i am also a big foodie and enjoy eating no non veg.
In the last 15-20 days i have been suffering from anal itching espcially around the butt crack. i thought this was fungal infection as i had similar concern in the groin area earlier. However last eveinnig noticed blood on the toilet roll after passing stool. it was bright red not too much. i am concerned this could be piles or smthing similar.
i have not had any constipation realted trouble but in the last 10-15 days i was feeling bloated and heavy ( acidic) and also sweating a lot. My stool is soft but the quantity has been less as compared to earlier.Pls provide help in following points-
1) How serious is this blood thing? Is this condition severe and persistant or it can be easily cured? I am embaressed to visit the doctor and would prefer if visit can be avoided
2) what can i do to 'cool' my system. to control acidity/heaviness/bloated tummy tc i mean prophylactic medicine and diet etc.
3) Can i continue enjoying my non-veg food in the mean time?.

Brief Answer:
Doctor's visit suggested

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX

I understand that you are embarrassed to visit the doctor, but the symptoms you are suffering from are very common and every doctor would see such patients on a daily basis. So there is no need to feel shy to visit a doctor.'
Regarding your symptoms, painless bleeding after passing stools is definitely a symptom of haemorrhoids (piles) but could also be due to other causes.
Please do visit a doctor at the earliest to confirm

1. Piles is very easily treatable, especially in the earlier stages. Initially diet control and intake of high fiber diet with plenty of liquids should suffice to treat it. In more advanced stages "banding" or "injection sclerotherapy" might be necessary. Only in the last stages is surgery advised. But given your symptoms, I would think that you are in very early stages but will need to confirm it physically.

2. Over the counter antacids like pantoprazole, omeprazole etc are very efficient in controlling symptoms of acidity. If after two weeks you do not have any relief, then you might need a course of antibiotics to treat a stomach infection which can cause acidity.

3. You could eat non-veg food, but do take a lot of fluids with it to prevent constipation.

Hope this helps and hope you start to feel better. please do not hesitate to contact me for further clarifications

doctor can you pls advise me-
1)Can you pls tell me if my urine report is ok. My ear also has some internal blisters/spots which is causing discomofrt. i am consulting a ENT specialist for same who has advised antibiotic ointment application. could bacterial infection be a concern as far as itching and irritation is concerned.
2) how long and when should i take some of these over the counter antacids? do these work as preventive also as we have festival season approaching.
3) is there an ointment or cream which i can apply locally to treat this itching/discomfort in per anal area .

thanks.

thanks.

Brief Answer:
Drink more water

Detailed Answer:
Hello XXXX
Sorry for the delay in replying to your query.
Your urine report is suggestive of a possible mild infection, but something which does not need any treatment. As long as you are not having any symptoms, drinking plenty of water (till the urine color becomes clear) should suffice. Regarding the ear infection, whatever the specialist suggests should be followed.

The antacids do work as a preventive medicine and can be taken whenever needed. I would advise you to take it for two weeks continously and then re-assess the symptoms

for the itching, the best treatment is to take a "sitz bath". Get a large basin in which you will be able to sit comfortably. Fill it with warm water and sit in it for 10 mins twice a day at the least and everytime you have a bowel movement. This will reduce all your symptoms substantially.

Hope you start to feel better XXXX

Have a great day
