What Causes Blood In Stool?

default
Posted on Wed, 15 Jun 2016
Question: Lately I have had blood show up every two or three days in my stool. Also the texture has become very grainy. It's not every day but does come and go every couple of days. My diet has changed due to high blood suger levels and I assumed that was the reason but it has been more than three weeks. Should I start worrying about this?

There is light pain I would compare to light menstrual cramps. Only in the past 3 wks. No to piles or the fissure. Constipation has been an ongoing problem alternating with loose bowels for about 10yrs due to loss of rectal muscle function. I try to alleviate those problems with kegal? Exercises and diet. Frequency in the past 3 wks has been increased from normally 1-2 times per day to 5-6 times per day with very little out put each time. No noticeable mass

Blood in Stools/ Under Evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Read and reviewed your updates in context to your painful blood in stools lately, with increased stool frequency.

The very fact submitted by you-that Constipation was ongoing problem with alternating bouts of loose bowels seems to be related to IBS. And the bleeding in stool seems to be the result of food induced infection and colitis lately. I know how concerned you are about the blood in stools, I would definitely try to resolve it soon, after getting further information on lead questions as asked below

More info needed as follows-
Are these colicky pains on the left? or right side of abdomen? Is this pain accompanied with Acidity in stomach?Any acid regurgitation complaint in past or currently.
Have you had hotel / street fast food/ or stale food with acidity and Stomach aches and vomiting lately?
Or did you had some partying lately before this problem started 3 weeks back?
What are your stool test reports in past and currently -if done by now?
When does your bowel gets loose-is it after Wheat loads in diet ? or after dairy products load in your diets?
Please update more details of days diet schedule? and days work schedule?
What type of job you do-if any? and does job involves lot of travelling?
How much water do you take daily? Is your diet mostly spicy/ fried ?
Update Any test reports -like blood tests / Colonoscopy / EGD(Esophago-Gastro-Duodenoscopy)-for upper GI endoscopy/ CT Contrast-study for abdomen/bowels?

Dear Sir, I really don't know how to answer your questions. I am on disability Medicare and medicaid. I am single with an income of less than $850 per month. I'm raising my 10yr old grandson with no child support from either parent at this time. I am also agorophobic. I had to go back to the clinic last month in order to get my prescriptions refilled otherwise I wouldn't have gone at all. The clinic I use has a very high turnover of medical staff and in the 5yrs I've gone there I have been shuffled through 4 Dr's and am now seeing a 5th who I understand is temporary. Every time I see a new Dr they rerun the same tests and give different diagnoses with changes in all my meds except for my advair. I have pretty much lost faith in Ok Dr's. This time again they ran all the same tests. According to them my vitamin D had dropped to 10 ; my calcium levels were down significantly low enough to require 2000 units of calcium citrate per day. My thyroid was so out of wack that he took me off my thyroxine completely and refered my to an endocrinologist who had a fit re:that measure and cancelled the test he ordered and put me back in it at a lower dosage. The first Dr said my suger levels were way too high and told me to cut out all suger and carbs from my diet but failed to give me alternatves or any specifics. So I muddled through and went from meat potatoes pastas and breads to baked or broiled fish and chicken with steamed vegetables and salads. No breads or fried foods. Eggs and cheese. I drink 2 cups of coffee per day with milk and sweet&low. 8-9 bottles of purified drinking water per day. As for all the numbers you need I had so many thrown at me so fast I couldn't keep track of them. And have no idea how to get them. I'm so computer illiterate I am doing good to figure out to comunicate with you on my phone. Please forgive me for being so abrupt and I hope I'm not being rude. I realise that I'm not giving you need and don't know how to remedy the situation. Rest assured I will in no way hold anything against you or your organisation. I just wondered if I should be worried enough to try once again to get through to these Dr's that are too busy to care.

Brief Answer:
IBD with Mild Colitis with Blood in Stools / Under Evaluation

Detailed Answer:

Hi Dear !! Thanks For your updates.
Read and reviewed your updates in context to your blood show in stools every 2-3 days time. Thanks for the patient co-operation to update more details.

My Impression-
I am concerned about your story and its facts.Herein I would help you with following reply-to resolve your health issue-
The blood show seems to be Mostly- due to -Rectal Ulcerations Colitis due to aggravated infections with Colonic infection accompanied with Proctitis-with bleeding ulcers.
Biospsy/ or Smear study to rule out amebic/ ulcerative/giardial colitis/or Crohn's / or Ulcerative Colitis/or Rectal Adeno-Carcinomas / Or Rectal Polyps with infection and ulcers-
Grainy blood show recurs every 2-3 days, due to recurring food induced infections, which need to be controlled.
Diabetes in you,may aggravate with this Colitis, and or/ is aggravating the Colitis
which is leading to bleeding ulcers every 2-3 days time.

Differrential Diagnosis-
Other causes- as-Rectal/ Colonic Cancers/Ulcerative Colitis / Crohn's /Colonic Diverticulosis/uPolyposis Coli with Colitis with Blood Shows, need to be kept in mind and investigated before planning further treatment in your case.
Ulcers and Cancerous growths with infections is to be ruled out as cause of your
Blood shows lately for 3 weeks, for your advanced age.

Do' Suggested for your case-
In a case like - I would ask -
check up with GP and get following script -for -1-2 weeks.
plenty of fluids and fruit juices for 2 weeks
High protein bland diet
Butter Milk
Banana Shakes/ smoothys
You to be on Non-spicy / bland diet-
with rice and Youghurt-
with banana milk shakes x 2 -3 times a day x 1-2 weeks.
Review Diabetic Medicines with Physician to control Colonic infection.
Antibiotics- Like Tab Ciplox Oz-1 x 2 per day x 10 days to control Colitis
NSAID's-Tab-Motrin 400 mg x2-3 times a day x 5-10 days
Tab Sporlac 1 x 2 per day to stabilize disturbed Colonic flora
Tab Bentyl-1 x 2-3 times per day
Tab Vit B12 and Tab-Folic acid- to stabilize mucosal lining and its regrowth.

After 10 days time-Plan Consults with Surgeon and Colonsocopist if needed,
and get proctoscopy done to assess the rectal Ulcers,
and colonoscopy- to assess colonic ulcers / or Diverticulitis-causing active bleeding every 2-3 days time

Hope this would resolve your health issues and would guide you to plan out needful treatment, without wasting time and anxiety- as you are known-agoraphobic person.
