What Causes Blood In Urine And Frequent Urination When Diagnosed With Balanoposthitis?
Question: I am a male 37 years old. I had a protected vaginal and oral sex with a high risk female. Post that I left for vacation to XXXXXXX in March about 1 week after the incident. When in XXXXXXX I developed symptoms for a fungal infection. I saw a doctor and he diagnosed it as Candida Balanoposthitis. He prescribed me an antifungal cream and medication. This made me very sick and I stopped taking it.
I waited till I got back home to the US and showed it to my GP. He made the same diagnoses and prescribed me mycolog II and Terbinafine once a day. After taking it for a week I also developed frequent urination. I told him about the high risk encounter I had and he tested me for chlamydia and gonorrhea which came negative. He tested my urine and found blood and some bacterial (Enterobacter Cloacae) infection. He said it is an infection of the prostate. So he put me on 2 weeks of Doxycyline 100mg twice a day and flowmax .4 mg once a day.
I took this for 2 weeks but the symptoms did not improve. So I went back to my GP and he asked me to see Urologist. Also he asked me to continue apply the cream and take terbinafine and doxcyclycine and flomax untill I dont see the urologist. After 2 more weeks of all these medicines I stopped everything. I was not sure the medication was right. I still had a couple of weeks to see a urologist. So, I changed my GP and went to a new physician. He took a urine sample and said there was no blood or wbc in urine and it looked fine, so he did not do a culture. He did take a swab from the penis glans and foreskin. The swab cam back negative for any fungal infection but came positive for Enterobacter Cloacae. So he put me on Bactrim DS 800/160 twice a day for 10 days. Also he asked me to stop all the previous medications and creams. While I was on Bactrim things improved a lot but I still had this feeling of needing to urinate often. The feeling is not in the bladded but tip of the penis. I did see the urologist who also checked my urine and took a look at the penis and said everything looked good. He said I should finish the dose of Bactrim and things will get better. Its 4 days since I finished my dose. All other symptoms are gone but even now I feel frequent urge to urinate, at the top of the penis. Urologist said if symptoms dont improve we will do a cystoscopy. I have taken urologists appointment for July 8th. Please advice.
P.S. Attaching swab results before starting Bactrim.

Hello
Thanks for your query and glad to hear that you are getting better after taking Bactrim for 10 days bu still has burning at the tip of penis .
The burning at the tip is mostly due to residual infection and should get cleared up within a week.
Since you still have some burning at the tip of the penis I would suggest you to continue Bactrim for one more week along with anti inflammatory medication Diclofenac twice daily ..
