What Causes Blood In Urine With Abdominal Pain?

Question: Hi Doctor,
For the last two days my father is seeing small specks of blood in his urine - not all the time, but about twice yesterday and twice today. He is 68 years old and generally healthy for his age. He has diabetic (marginal) and takes tablet for it. Two days ago he was saying he had uneasiness in his lower stomach but that has stopped. His urine is not colored except for this. He did his routine blood work 4 months ago and all was fine. In fact his kidney function was also tested then. Is this something to be worried about now ? Please let me know. thanks

Brief Answer:
Investigations needed
Detailed Answer:
Good day.
Thank you for contacting health care magic. noted the history. may I know which anti diabetes medication he is taking now? . At this age there are number of possibilities for noting blood in urine. Urinary tract infection and renal stones are common causes. as he also had lower abdominal pain, it may be worthwhile doing an ultrasound scan of pelvis to look for a renal Stone. If a cause is not found in scan, then he may need a cystoscope.

He has been having enlarged prostrate for the last 10 years or so. Doctor who checked him for that said no surgery was required given his age. Will that be of any cause for this ?
Brief Answer:
Possible
Detailed Answer:
Sorry for the delay.
Yes it is possible to see blood in in urine if he has prostate enlargement and if there is inflammation associated with it ( prostatitis). It would be better to do an ultrasound scan after examination.
