Question: I am a 57 yr old male with absolutely normal health.
Yesterday I had a burning sensation while passing urine. Urine colour was normal.During the course of the day this did not repeat. Today morning I again got a burning sensation while passing urine and the urine was wine red with blood. Over a period of one hour I passed urine a number of times and everytime it was red with blood. Once a blob of clotted blood also came out. I panicked. I passed urine a couple of times more and went to office in a jittery state. Once there, I noticed that the urine I was passing became absolutely normal in colour and there was no burning sensation. It is 12 hours now since I first passed bloodied urine and everthing seems fine. Do I need to worry and do any kind of

Brief Answer:
You need to be evaluated by a surgeon/urologist.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Sir,

Good evening!
I can understand the situation you are going through since two days.

I have gone through the events described in your query, it seems to me you have passed blood in the urine along with clot (hematuria) associated with burning sensation.

It is a matter to be evaluated to find out the causes of bleeding in the urine.

It could be due to:
1. Urinary tract infection (Kidney, ureter or bladder & urethra)
2. Stones somewhere in the kidney, ureter or bladder
3. Diseases of the kidney
4. Cancer of the kidney or prostate gland.

In view of the above listed possible causes, I would advise you to consult a surgeon or a urologist for proper clinical examination and you may be required to have certain lab tests like CBC, urine analysis, blood coagulation profile, an abdominal ultrasound scan or an abdominal x ray (KUB) to ascertain the cause of bleeding in the urine.

Based on the results of the lab tests the doctor will decide the best treatment option available to treat your condition.

Hope I tried my level best to give my opinion.
However, should you need any clarification I shall be glad to answer.

Don't worry, take care of yourself, Insha Allah everything will be alright.

Dear Doctor XXXXXXX Thank you for your prompt professional advise. I think I will, however, wait a while before going ahead with the tests suggested by you. This is because I suspect the problem may be linked to something I omitted to mention in the details I gave earlier: I had a mild stomach upset at the same time. Generally I take nor-metrogyl in such circumstances which I did not take this time and I conjecture - though I cant be sure - that there is a linkage between the stomach condition and the bleeding - maybe the urinary tract got infected or something. I had a little bleeding this morning again ( only a little) which did not recur during the day. I have taken nor-metrogyl to take care of the infection part now and I'll see what happens. Will update you as you would be professionally interested in knowing the outcome.I think the 4 possibilities listed by you are in order of probability and my conjecture fits in with this, being the first in your list. Once again, warm regrads for your response. xxxx XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
