What Causes Blood In Urine?
hematuria
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Blood in the urine is called hematuria.
There are different possible causes. The most common causes are:(1) infection- this would normally be associated with other symptoms such as discomfort on urination, passing urine frequently, urgency to urinate, abdominal discomfort, sometimes change in urine odour
(2)stones in some aspect of the urinary tract- usually associated with pain,
(3) trauma
(4)side effects of medication- aspirin and similar medications (ibuprofen, naproxen, cataflam), warfarin, heparin
(5)tumor of some aspect of the urinary tract
(6)blood disease such as a coagulation disorder
(7)inflammatory disease of the kidneys
If you have signs or symptoms of the more common causes such as infection or stones then the cause would be easily diagnosed.
You should consider discontinuing any medication that may worsen bleeding such as ibuprofen, aspirin, cataflam
You also need to contact your doctor who would suggest a visit during which he or she would examine and also check the urine in the office and suggest a sample be sent to the lab for analysis (they can check for infection, inflammatory kidney diseases and small stone particles)
Imaging is also needed to take a look at the kidneys and the rest of the urinary tract.
This is normally in the form of an ultrasound.
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
