What Causes Bloody Crusty Dry Nose?
Vasomotor Rhinitis...
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for posting the query. I have gone through the history thoroughly and understood your problem. I'll try my best to help you with this.
After going through the description, I am of the opinion that you could be suffering from Vasomotor Rhinitis.
The commonest features of Vasomotor rhinitis include excessive vascular engorgement of the nasal mucosa and watery rhinorrhoea. The cause is unknown but it appears to be related to an imbalance in the regulation of the parasympathetic and sympathetic systems in the body.
It can be triggered by exposure to chemical irritants, changes in weather, hormonal variations and stress. The bleeding is due to rupture of the congested and engorged tiny blood vessels in the nasal septum.
The treatment modalities include both medical and surgical.
Medical management includes use of saline and steroid nasal sprays followed by regular steam inhalation. Oral or topical nasal decongestants relieve the nasal block. Oral steroids are used in severe cases.
Turbinoplasty or Vidian neurectomy (resection of Vidian nerve) are the commonest surgical procedures undertaken to reduce the symptoms when the medical intervention fails.
Do not worry! With appropriate intervention the symptoms can be controlled.
1. Drink plenty of warm water
2. Do steam inhalation 3-4 times a day
3. Use saline nasal spray and steroid nasal spray for the control of symptoms.
4. Oral antihistamines to reduce the secretions.
5. Get a CT scan of the paranasal sinuses for assessment of the patency of the sinuses. Depending upon the report, further treatment can be planned.
Hope I have answered your query; I will be available for the follow up queries.
