Brief Answer:
Need to have more info first...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Before running into final conclusions, I need to know:
- are you diabetic?
- If yes, what's your average blood sugar level (bsl)?
- are you taking any medication on regular basis (as you are reporting to be taking "medications" at your medical history)?
- when you measured your bsl of 189, was it: after eating? after having a moderate/intense physical activity? being under stress? or any other?
- apart shaking and having a high bsl, are you also having shortness of breathe? nausea/vomiting? fruity smell/odor? or any other symptom?

Looking forward to have the requested info in for a more specific opinion!

Following details...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for providing the requested info.

From what you are reporting, it seems that you have been having a very high blood sugar level, higher than 300, and your body is used with that high level.

When your sugar levels have dropped to 170 or 189, your body recognizes these levels as low, and reacts by shaking. It is important to make your bsl go down gradually in order to let your body adapt better without extreme reactions.

I think that you might skip your meals or eat very little as you want to get your bsl down. Skipping meals is not advised especially if you take diabetic medications (like insulin or metformin); they will lower your bsl but you'll do more harm than good to your body.

You should have at least 5 meals, eat often and avoid high calorie foods.

When you have the shaking episodes, if you take a candy or any sugary food, does the shakiness subside? Or it continues the same?

At the end, if the shaking episodes will last for a few more days or become frequent, I advise to consult a neurologist in order to run further neurological exams to exclude other neurological problems.

Blood pressure should be monitored. Stomach problems (like gastritis, ulcer) should be ruled out by GI specialist as they are often associated with diabetes.

Hope it was of help!

I don't feel dizzy as I would if my sugar was low. But I'm still shaking a little bit. I don't know if this from bad nerves or what.. how can I get my sugar to drop to normal levels

Brief Answer:
A close collaboration with endocrinologist/dietitian is recommended...

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

In your case, we want to make sure that your blood sugar levels are not too low or too high, but within an acceptable range. This range is set in collaboration with your caring doctor (endocrinologist/diabetologist).

Next, a dietitian is always advised to be consulted in order to make your own diet menu as per your daily needs and your actual bsl.

Generally speaking:
- try to have your meals regularly, 5 meals are advised
- avoid high calorie foods
- increase fluids intake especially when it comes to water
- increase physical activity (moderate to high intensity)
- take medications regularly as prescribed by your doctor
- avoid alcohol or any other illicit drugs

Hope it was of help!
