What Causes Breakthrough Bleeding While On Balziva?
Question: Hi! I have a question about birth control. I've been on Balziva 28 for 8 years to regulate my cycles related to PCOS. Last month i had breakthrough bleeding a week before my period, and i got nervous and stopped taking my pill to induce a full period and start over with a new pack. This month im also having breakthrough bleeding a week before my period. What could this be related to? I have an appt with my gyn on tuesday, should I continue to take the pill until then? I havent missed any pills and take it with an alarm every day.

Hello
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
After 8 years your body might be getting used to the hormones and you may need a short break or a different formulation or a higher dosage.
Please continue the pill until Tuesday.
Your doctor may perform an ultrasound scan, pap smear etc and then take a call on which of the above options may work.
Have you lost or gained weight recently, had a new diet or altered sleep, travelling, other meds, exercise?
Any of these factors may affect birth control.
All the best.
Please feel free to discuss further

I've been trying to follow a lower carb diet recently that seems to have coincided with the breakthrough bleedin, might that effect my menstrual cycle? I also take metformin 500 mg twice daily for PCOS but ive been on the same dose of that for many years. I was also recently seen at the gyn for a case of bacterial vaginosis that hasnt seem to have totally gone away, could that effect it?
Brief Answer:
Yes it's likely
Detailed Answer:
Yes, dieting and the medications for the infection could both have led to the bleeding.Do not worry much about it.
Meet your doctor though for the scan and the smear.
Take care
