What Causes Breakthrough Bleeding While On NuvaRing?
Question: Hello, I am concerned because my sister started the nubs ring 2 months ago and has been having some spotting and past 3-4 days it has been significant (blood) she says it has been the amount you would see with a period the past 3-4 days. She has been very moody for 3 days, heavy cramps for one day. She says that when she adjusts the nuvaring she feels her cervix and it is the size of a baseball. She is military and can't get to a doctor till Monday. Should she remove her nuvaring. ? She is worried she will be super moody if she does. She is getting married this weekend ( she is gay) and started the nuvaring to help control pms she is also 37 years old
Brief Answer:
No need to remove nuvaring
Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
There is nothing to worry as it is very common with nuvaring to result in breakthrough bleeding.
This will be like period only and will be gone in a while so no need to remove the ring.
These mood swings are because of the change in hormone levels and will be fine soon.
So just wait for periods to stop by themselves and nothing active needs to be done.
Take care.

She also said today she had something come out of her vagina that was as big as a walnut and had consistency of mucus and blood. Any need to worry?
Brief Answer:
nothing to worry
Detailed Answer:
No dear, still nothing to worry as it must have been a piece of endometrium shed along with blood so just ask her to keep the nuvaring in its place and she will be relieved of bleeding in a while.
But avoid tampon use and stick to sanitary pads only.
All the best.
