Hi JUst wondering my daughters on marvalen 28 pill and shes 16 yrs old she gets severe pain with periods and her gyno has been working with her for 2yrs now she has tried skipping period which worked for a while then statred getting breakthriough bleeding most months usually around 10th -12th of the pill.she now wants her to take 5mg a day of pervera tablets while on her active tablets of marvelon as it is the bleeding that is causing her pain even with the breakthrough bleeding.I have read and been told of the side affects that so many women get and now not sure about her taking the pervera Vanessa
Provera tablets are basically made of progesterone and they are used to initiate bleeding, so if your daughter wants to stop the bleeding than choosing this medicine without gynecologist prescription is not right.
Also she is already taking Marvelon which contains estrogen and progesterone both. She should continue Marvalen tablets and can use Mafenemic tablets for relieving pain. Also, she should get her pelvic ultrasound done for endometriosis.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Hiba Tehrim, General & Family Physician
