What Causes Breathing Difficulties After An Injury Of The Xyphoid Process?
Question: hi,
1 day ago i bent over too far to hand someone something and in the process slightly bumped ( pressed against ) my xiphoid process region on the edge of a fridge door. ever since i have had a slight sensation in the area when pressed against. no breathing problems etc or even hurts when i breath either. what could this be exactly?

Brief Answer:
Just be patient. It will pass soon.
Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Thank you for asking on HCM!
Regarding your concern,I would explain that your symptoms don't seem to be cardiac related at all (a heart related pain is not superficial,or modulated by palpitations).
It seems to be just a injury of the xyphoid process.
Do not worry about it!
As it is an elastic process it can hardly be definitely damaged.
So relax!
Just try any painkillers like ibuprofen, naproxene etc.. It will pass soon spontaneously.
Hope to have been helpful!
Feel free to ask any other questions whenever you need!
Best wishes,

thank you for the reply doctor.
no i don't think there is any breakage or fractures. when i came in contact with the fridge door the pressure only lasted a second or so and was slight. i never fell hard onto it or anything like that.
i just worry about conditions such as costochondral conditions occuring etc.

Brief Answer:
I recommend using ibuprofen or naproxene
Detailed Answer:
Hello again!
It doesn't seem to be costochondritis.
But we can not exclude the development of such disorder, which consists in inflammation of the cartilages and xyphoid process.
That is why I recommend to take ibuprofen or naproxene.
These drugs are not only effective against the pain, but also against inflammation, and are the base of the treatment of costochonditis.
Hope to have been of help!
I am at your disposal for further questions, if you need.
