What Causes Brown Discharge Followed By White Discharge After Intercourse?

Question: I had my periods on the 18th of Nov and lasted for five to six days as usual. We had sex on the 23rd and on 24th of Nov without proper protection (unfortunately on both occasions the condom slipped off so not sure how safe it was). I had the pill on the 25th of Nov. However, I noticed a brown discharge on the 3rd of Dec. I first thought it was blood and that I had my periods but then it was just a hot flush of brown blood like discharge. Since then I have been having white discharge. I took a pregnancy test on 6th Dec and it came negative. Do I have a reason to worry?

Hi,

Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns.

Pregnancy is unlikely in your case as your pregnancy test is negative and you took the pill on time.

What you have is mostly a vaginal infection (which sometimes is brown in color).

I will advise you to get a vaginal culture swab of the discharge and start antibiotics accordingly.

Till that time you can use clotrimazole vaginal pessary. You can get it with your primary doctor prescription.
