What Causes Brown Discoloration In Urine?

Information
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
This could be from old blood, either from the urinary tract, or from the vagina. If you are having no urinary frequency or pain, kidney area pain (in back on sides) or fever, you can go in to see your doctor and have a urinalysis and pelvic exam to sort this out. If you are having urinary symptoms, OR if you don't think you will be able to get in to see your doctor tomorrow or Friday because of the holiday, then go in to an urgent care clinic tonight.
If, however, you recently started hormone treatment (estrogens) for any reason, then it could be from that, but as you didn't mention it, then go get checked promptly.
From the urinary tract, it can be due to infection, stones, inflammation, or other causes.
From the vagina, old blood looks brown and can come out during or after urination. Bleeding from the vagina in a postmenopausal woman should always be checked out as can be a sign of cancer.
One other thing - brown urine can also be from it being highly concentrated, but my guess is that is not the kind of brown you are talking about.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if I can provide further information.
