What Causes Brown Spots From Vagina After Intercourse?
Question: I noticed brown specks when I wipe. I stuck my finger inside my vagina and more of it came off on my finger. I did have sex about 2-3 days ago. No other symptoms besides the brown specks. Please help?

The brown spots may have many reasons. Common ones are cervical erosion a condition of inflammation or infection in the cervix that makes it swollen up and it may bleed to touch. Other causes are trauma due to sex and hormonal issues like thyroid hormone imbalance.
Oral contraceptive pills may also lead to bleeding and mimic an erosion or bleed due to low hormone levels causing spotting. This is very common.
Other reasons may be a cervical polyp or fibroids that are non cancerous growths on the cervix or uterus. Rare causes at your age are problems in the uterine lining.
Missed abortions may also lead to bleed [if pills have not been taken properly causing pregnancy].
If the bleeding is transient and stops by itself and does not recur then maybe it was caused by trauma. If you continue to have it then it is better to see a doctor and get an evaluation.

How long should I wait before seeing a doctor? Meaning....if it is transient, how many days should pass before it clears up on its own?
