What Causes Bruising Along The Bottom Of Outer Eyelids?

default
Posted on Fri, 5 Dec 2014
Question: I have what appears to be hemorrhaging/bruising along the bottom of my outer eyelids. It extends along the length of the eyelids in a distinct line just above my eyelashes. The left lid area is darker than the right. There is no pain, but my eyes feel very dry. I take no medications, but did take two benadryl on Sunday night to help me sleep. The discoloration appeared the next morning (Monday) and this is Tuesday morning. Could this be dehydration related? We were in the mountains for the previous four days and the humidity has been extremely low.

Brief Answer:
It seems like bruise or black eye.

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Welcome to Health care Magic.

I am Dr. DADAPEER K, an Ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history. It seems from the history that you are having bruise along the outer eyelids.
This indicates black eye and it is because of collection of blood in the layers of the skin of the eyelids. Though most commonly it occurs following injuries it can also occur spontaneously. Dehydration is not related to this but it can occur in some systemic problems like diabetes, hypertension...
Hence you need to get evaluated to rule out these common conditions.
It is usually self resolving condition and applying cold compression will provide symptomatic relief.
If possible do send a photo of the affected eye so that I can confirm the diagnosis and advice you more accurately.

Hope the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
With regards
