Posted on Tue, 7 Feb 2017
Question: HI there,
I am in indonesia and was sick for a few days(nausea, swollen/abdominal pain and diaharea). I took ciprofloxacin two and a half days ago. Unaware I shouldn't be in the sun, I went out for 20min today and my legs and back are very burnt. I have also been feeling dizzy/lightheaded for two days, stiff neck and tingling in my mouth(gums and tongue). Should I be concerned? I am in Sambawa and not close to a hospital...
Thank you for your time

Brief Answer:
Stop Ciprofloxacin immediately

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist.

Burning of the limbs and back are due to phototoxicity. In most patients, the prognosisof this is excellent once the offending agent is removed. However, complete resolution may take some weeks to months. Topical steroids may also help.

Other symptoms like dizziness, lightheaded, tingling in mouth and gums appear to me to be the side effects of ciprofloxacin and are little bit to worry. So stop ciprofloxacin immediately and if the symptoms dont improve soon, you have to visit a Doctor

I hope I have answered your query and this will help you . Wish you a good health
