What Causes Burning Sensation In Ankles, Feet And Lower Legs?
Peripheral neuropathy more likely
Detailed Answer:
I read your question carefully and I understand your concern.
Judging from that description it seems to be typical peripheral neuropathy. It is caused by damage to peripheral nerves and manifests usually with such hot or cold abnormal sensations in the feet.
Causes can be many such as diabetes, alcohol, nutritional deficiencies, medications and toxins, rheumatological conditions, infections etc....the list can be very long. At times even after all tests have been done no cause is found, happens in 25% of cases unfortunately.
So usually it is started by testing for most common causes and if nothing is found rarer causes are searched. Routine initial tests include nerve conduction studies, blood glucose and glucosylated hemoglobin, liver and kidney function, electrolyte panel, blood count, vitamin B12 levels etc.
Management when the cause is found consists naturally in addressing it accordingly. To alleviate the symptoms medication for neuropathic pain is used like Gabapentin or Pregabalin.
