What Causes Burning Sensation In The Penis?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: My husband has an intense burning in his penis. He uses a catheter part of the time and I have nagged him not to ever use one twice, but it doesn't always do any good. Does he have an infection and what do you suggest we do to treat it? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Explained

Detailed Answer:
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

With one day of catheter use in hospital setting, the chance of developing UTI is 10 percent per day so its a risk for getting urinary tract infection.

Urine examination can be done along with culture sensitivity testing and antibiotics can be started empirically.

The antibiotics empirically used can be a quinolone such as ciprofloxacin or a 3rd generation cephalosporin. They can be adjusted according to the culture results when available.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks
