Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am on effexor and abilify though I went off of abilify due to being hungry all the time. After visiting the doctor, I need to go back on a low dose of abilify and switch to taking it in the evenings. As soon as I did, I noticed joint pain. Have you heard of this before?
Abilify is a great medication in the right person, and Effexor is also a safe and reliable medication for Depression. Abilify does however have a few side effects, one of them IS JOINT PAIN. This is not common but I have seen this occur several times, some mild and others more severe. The symptoms do resolve once the medication is stopped and it does appear to occur more frequently at higher doses. I cannot speculate if restarting the Abilify will bring the joint pain back on or not but if the dose is lower I suspect the likelihood of the pain returning and the severity of it would be much less.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. David Girardi, Internal Medicine Specialist
