Detailed Answer:
Hello!
Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!
I have read about this test, which can be done at home. Nevertheless there are not enough clinical data evidence to totally support the relation between this test and atherosclerosis (arterial stiffness and thickening).
Regarding your current medication, you should know that simvastatin and aspirin help reduce your cardio-vascular risk.
From the other hand, a healthy lifestyle:
- a lot of physical activity (walking, jogging, gym, swimming, aerobics, etc.)
- a healthy diet (Mediterranean diet)
- controlling your risk factors (closely monitor your blood pressure), avoiding smoking
would help reduce your cardio-vascular risk.
I would recommend performing a routine check up including a physical exam and some tests:
- a resting ECG and cardiac ultrasound to examine your cardiac structure and function
- a Doppler ultrasound of the cervical arteries to examine for possible atherosclerotic stenosis
- lab blood tests (fasting glucose, complete blood count, blood lipid profile, kidney and liver function tests, blood electrolytes)
are needed every 6 months.
If you have any symptoms like chest pain or shortness of breath, a cardiac stress test would help examine for possible myocardial ischemia (coronary artery disease).
Hope you will find this answer helpful!
Kind regards,
Dr. Iliri
