Question: my brother in law is to have some surgery on his ear something about brain fluid coming from the ear. Is this possible? or they said might be spinal fluid. can you shed some light on this problem

Yes, it is possible for the cerebrospinal fluid to leak from the brain. Whenever there is trauma to the temporal bone, the covering of the brain the meninges, get ruptured, following which, the fluid suspending the brain leaks out through the fractured segment.

If the leak has been diagnosed then immediate exploration has to be performed to identify the site and closure of the same. Exploration of the leak is done through mastoidectomy under general anesthesia.
