What Causes Cervical Incompetence During Pregnancy?
Question: Hello Doctor, I had a pregnancy 1.5 yrs ago and had to terminate it in 13 weeks due to abnormality. And in my second pregnancy which started in this year july i ended up with miscarriage in November ie 18 weeks. I started with mild pain and bleeding. By the time I reached hospital Doctor scanned and said cervix has been dilated. After 2 hrs it pained strongly(labour pains) and expulsion occurred without any medicine. My doctor says its clear cervical incompetence which is due to previous termination induced. But another doctor said it cannot be cervical incompetence as i had labour pains. If this is cervical incompetence i will have to get stitches next time. But if its not what might be the case. Is there any test which i should undergo. Please suggest what do u think and what shall I do?
Brief Answer:
Various tests advised
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. It is unlikely to be the cervical incompetence as there were strong labour pains.
Various causes like diabetes, antiphospholipid antibody syndrome, autoimmune diseases, chromosomal anomalies can cause second trimester abortion.
You should get karyotype, Antiphospholipid antibody profile, blood sugar levels and Antinuclear antibody tests done to assess the cause of abortion.
Hope you found the answe helpful.
