What Causes Change In Menstrual Cycle After Treating Leg Fracture?

default
Posted on Fri, 16 Jan 2015
Question: Hi I am currently on codeine and paracetamol because I had a sever break in my leg after dislocating my ankle and falling and breaking both bones in my leg. I have been discharged from hospital with other medicines but that no longer am on and and am now only on paracetamol and codeine. My break happened 5 weeks ago and I am now at day 53 in my cycle which the longest ever I have had. My periods are usual between 29&35 days so to go to this length is definitely unusual and rare for me. I also was on tinzaparin injections so wondered whether this could have been a factor but these have stopped. Can you advise me at all. I am house bound currently, can't weight beat at all and fully reliant on others.

Brief Answer:
Just wait and let the periods happen on their own.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The delay in periods can be due to stress caused by the injury. It is not likely to be due to the medicines that you have taken. Usually under such circumstances periods start on their own in few weeks. In case you are worried you can get the hormonal tablets like Norethisterone prescribed from your gynecologist and have a withdrawal bleeding after that.
Since you are home bound it is best for you to wait and let the periods start on their own once the stress due to injury is over.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.
