What Causes Chest Pain, Difficulty In Breathing, Acid Reflux And Sleep Apnea?

default
Posted on Tue, 25 Aug 2015
Question: I went to er for chest pain and trouble breathing. I was admitted for high troponin levels. They maintained around .450, but echo and cardiac XXXXXXX were negative. I have acid reflux, and sleep apnea. The apnea is being treated by a Cpap. I'm also overweight. Have gained 100 pounds in the last two years despite eating healthy and exercising. I'm 40 and a former college athlete, so I am aware of proper nutrition an exercise, so planning to go to endocrinologist to check thyroid.

What else could be causing the consistently raised troponin levels if the cardiac XXXXXXX showed nothing?

What is the highest troponin level someone can have?

How can I lower my troponin levels?

Brief Answer:
Other causes other than infarct might explain high troponin levels...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

1. You are reporting to have high troponin levels (up to 450) while cardiac echo and XXXXXXX were both negative. These tests have excluded any possible cardiac infarct. Can you please upload the tests reports, so I can analyze myself (I want to see the reference range used by your lab)?

2. Please bare in mind that there exist other factors to increase cardiac troponins other than cardiomyopathy.

Panic/anxiety episodes can also cause troponins to elevate. However, after the episode is over, the troponins will get back to normal (even after a few hours after stopping the episode).

In case of any heart problem, troponins will remain high even after one week.

Did they measure the troponins levels again (repeated the testing)?

3. Thyroid blood testing and thyroid ultrasound will determine if you are also having thyroid problems that might cause your unexplained increase in weight. Thyroid problems and reflux will also cause/simulate situations of increased heart palpitations or panic attacks that might be causing high troponin levels.

4. Once again, can you please send the tests reports so I can answer your last question specifically?
