What Causes Chest Pain While Suffering From Congestive Heart Failure?

Question: My 92-year-old mother with congestive heart failure but no current edema or need for oxygen, had a relatively active day for her and a favorite meal of shrimp in butter with broccoli. Later that afternoon, without any other symptoms, she had a bout of extreme oral eruption of a clear, mucus-like fluid that she could not control. This lasted for about 40 minutes. She had chest pain during this episode, but she often has chest pain while all other vital signs are normal. Her blood pressure was normal, though it fluctuates daily between about 90-150, with low levels in response to lasix and higher levels after midodrine. After this episode she felt fine and felt good the next day. What do you think may have caused this vomit-like eruption of clear fluid?

Brief Answer:
Minor allergic reaction
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but it seems that you have experienced a minor allergic reaction to shrimps.. allergic reactions to certain foods can occur even if you have been eating them before with no adverse effects at all. if the blisters recur or you experience edema , itching or swelling then you might need to use an antihistaminic as citrizine once daily before going to bed . I would recommend that you eat shrimps with caution in the future . I hope I answered your question .

There were no "blisters" and no evidence of stomach contents in the vomit, such as shrimp or broccoli, which were eaten about 4 hours earlier. Since she has not had another episode for a couple days, your diagnosis makes sense. I hope you are correct. Is this kind of clear liquid vomit be related to end-end stage heart failure? If it happens again when she has not eaten shrimp, what do you recommend that we do?
Brief Answer:
Seasonal allergy
Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms,
Since the vomit did not contain any stomach contents and was only composed of clear mucus like fluid, then most probably the allergic reaction was not from the shrimps. It might be a seasonal allergy that caused her a postnasal discharge.
This post nasal discharge is usually difficult to spit out and is often swallowed leading to gastric upset and occasional vomiting. This is not likely to be related to heart failure.
If still recurs then she might benefit from using the antihistaminic (Cetirizine) once daily before going to bed.
I hope you find this helpful.
