Question: Hello! I really hope you can help me! I have been suffering from many symptoms for about 14 years which started out with not so many symptoms, but am progressively acquiring more symptoms. They range from chronic muscle spasms all over the body, muscle twitching, aggravation and irritability, gastrointestinal problems, chronic headaches, chronic body aches, chronic joint pain, etc. I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, myoclonic jerking or tonic-clonic seizures which occur at night. I also have high blood pressure and a few other problems. At one point and time they thought I was bipolar but then just said that I had manic depression and anxiety. Please help!!!! Could I have heavy metal toxicity???

Brief Answer:
You can get hair test done

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for using healthcare magic. I, Dr Abhishek Kapoor, would help you in this query.

Heavy metal poisoning presents with myriad of symptoms such as joint pain, tingling sensation, headache, insomnia, gastritis, unsteady gait, mood swings, metallic taste, hair loss, weight loss etc. However most of these symptoms overlap with symptoms of numerous other conditions including fibromyalgia, crohn,s disease, auto-immune disease, neuromuscular disorder etc. Therefore without tests it is extremely difficult to prove or exclude heavy metal toxicity. If you strongly suspect metal poisoning you should get the metal test done.

In the interim, I would start you on duloxetine and pain killer to take care of physical symptoms.

In case, you need further help, you can ask.

well, I also am having another problem that I need to know if I need to go see a general doctor or go to the ER at the hospital. My psychiatrist recently put me on Lamictal 25 mg for two weeks, then he upped me to 50 mg for two weeks. one week after I started the 50 mg, I developed a blistery rash on my torso and started hurting even more really bad. This morning I have felt like vomiting all morning and I now have 3 blisters inside my mouth and some on my arms. I stopped taking the Lamictal about 5 days ago but I am only getting worse with side effect symptoms from it. What do I need to do?

Brief Answer:
May have steven-johnson syndrome

Detailed Answer:
Hi

This is the dermatological side effect of lamictal. May be Stevens-Johnson syndrome. In that case, go to emergency to consult a dermatologist. You need immediate care.

If you have more query, you can ask.
