What Causes Chronic Pain In Abdomen Above Belly Button?

default
Posted on Thu, 8 Jan 2015
Question: Hello, I am 26 years old and have now been experiencing pain in my abdomen for about 10 years. The pain is located about a half an inch above my belly button. The pain never goes away, but can become more severe at times. It does not feel like it is very deep in there and just by placing my finger on that spot it causes discomfort. I have been told that it was irritable bowel, but I have no problems with my digestive track. I do not have any bloating, diahrea, constipation, cramping, nothing at all. I was also told that the pain was caused by excess acid and was prescribed prevacid, but that was no help. I have had 2 colonoscopies, 2 endoscopies, numerous blood tests, ct scans done two different ways, my gallbladder was removed, xrays, culture samples were taken, allergy tests and everything has come back normal. The pain truly affects has an effect on my daily life and it drives me crazy to constantly be in pain, but not have any explanation as to why. Please help!

Brief Answer:
Possibility of fatty hernia of line XXXXXXX to be considered

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Sir,

Based on description of pain just above the umbilicus(belly button) with tenderness(pain on application of pressure), one of the possible explaination for pain could be presence of fatty hernia of line XXXXXXX Unlike other hernias there may not be visible swelling. It usually occurs through herniation of fat through the rectus sheath (Aponeurosis/ covering of rectus muscle). As other investigations are all normal, it is very reassuring and there seems to be no cause for concern.
In my clinical practice many patients have been referred with acid peptic disease, and on clinical examination have found to have fatty hernia.

I would suggest you to discuss this as one of possibility with your physician. Exact diagnosis will depend on clinical examination. Diagnosis of Irritable bowel syndrome is diagnosis of exclusion(After thorough investigation and examination if no cause is found out, then any abdominal symptom is labelled as Irritable Bowel syndrome). So do consider the possibility of Fatty hernia of line XXXXXXX before being labelled as IBS.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.

Take Care
