What Causes Chronic Shortness Of Breath And Dry Cough?

default
Posted on Wed, 3 May 2017
Question: Hi, one doctor says I have asthma, another says I don't. I have typical asthma symptoms of chronic shortness of breath, dry cough especially when I am overdue for symbicort, and feeling like my breathing is often too much work. If I don't take the asthma mess, I just can't breathe. I am fine with having asthma, but I also has swollen nasal passages often and feel like the back of my throat is swollen and that makes me choke. I don't think that is part of asthma or is it? I don't have any allergies, except cats and I stay completely away from any cat. Can the swollen throat feeling and swollen nasal passages be part of asthma?

Brief Answer:
Yes, you are having allergic Airway disease.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, all these things (nasal and throat) are connected with asthma.
There is one recent advance in asthma and upper respiratory tract symptoms.
Almost 60% of asthma patients have allergic rhinitis. And it is known as 'one Airway, one disease' - allergic Airway disease.
So along with symbicort, you need to take intranasal spray containing steroid (fluticasone).
Oral combination of antihistamine (levocetrizine or fexofenadine) and anti allergic (montelukast) I also very useful.
So all your symptoms are connected and needs specific treatment.
So consult your doctor and discuss about starting fluticasone nasal spray and levocetrizine +montelukast.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
