What Causes Cold And Dry Cough?

Question: I am having cold and dry cough at times since last 2-3 days. Today morning post brushing i was trying to clear my throat and i spitted a bit of blood. Is it something to panic about? I am doing steam inhalation and taking cold tablets. Please guide.

Hi,

I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

With your details, bleeding could be from pharyngeal wall (pharyngitis) or Severe dry cough can cause bleeding through bronchioles of lung.

I suggest you to consult ENT surgeon and get detailed ent examination to rule out pharyngitis, If necessary, x-ray chest (lung causes).

you need systemic decongestants, cough suppressants, antibiotics, if necessary steroids. Its dose and strength will be decided by your treating Doctor.

Do not worry, It happens in severe cough. Mean time continue steam inhalation, avoid dust, take simple antihistamines one tab at bed time till you get ent consultation..

Since I am overseas and getting a doctors appointment here is a bit difficult is it ok to take Dcold and Moxclav 625 along with steam inhalations 2 times a day? Please advise if any home remedy can be suggested. Thanks.

Yes. you can start MOXCLAV (augmentin) 625MG thrice daily and Tab. Dcold (paracetamol + pseudoephidrine ). Both works to control infection. But, you need to see an ent surgeon for proper evaluation and exact treatment.

Avoid dust, chilled products (curd/ice cream/citrus containing fruit juices) and chilled climate.

Dear Doctor,
Thanks for the quick reply. I would continue the tablets. Is it to be taken after food or before is my last Q? Since I am in Europe I cant avoid cold weather 100% atleast when I travel but will protect myself enough. Thanks a ton.

Please continue same antibiotic for 5-7 days, it takes time to get complete cure in some infections.

In case of persistence of throat pain or re-bleeding during cough needs to be evaluated with an ent surgeon.
