I had to stop taking my hormone replacement meds before surgery... I went through menopsuse at 43. I am 62 yesrs old. This symptom has just really been kicking in in the last week or so. It has goten so bad my skeep is really being compromised. Any ideas about this? Can I take my hormone replacement at this point- or is it a diffrrent problem?

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
it sounds like withdrawal symptoms from HRT (hormone replacement therapy). Just make sure that you don't have fever (which may also cause such fluctuations) by measuring your temperature in the armpit. Also make sure that your armpit is not wet when you place the thermometer or the measured temperature will be lower than the real one. Do this at least twice a day for a couple of days. Checking your thyroid function is another suggestion, just in case.
The doctors have advised you to stop HRT to reduce the risk for thrombosis during immobilization. I suppose you're past that stage... two months after the operation you should be able to walk normally. So if you don't have fever, you have the option to restart HRT or try to find comfort in various measures including physical activity (mild exercise), drinking enough water, avoiding alcohol, taking antidepressants if needed. Regarding HRT, you'd better consult the treating doctor, particularly if you've been taking it for a long time (more than 5 years).
I hope it helps!
Kind Regards!
