What Causes Constant And Persistent Pain In The Left Base Of The Skull?

default
Posted on Thu, 12 May 2016
Question: I have a constant pain at the base of my skull on the back left side for 5 days now. Muscle relaxers did not help. It will ease with OTC pain meds, but not go away. I thought originally I slept wrong and got a crick in my neck, but it seems the pain went up so that it doesn't seem to be in the neck, but right at the base of the skull. I feel "different" not numb, not tingly, but something in the left side of my face.

Brief Answer:
Muscle tension

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for contacting HCM with your health care concerns

You have had pain in the left base of your skull for the past 5 days. Despite using muscle relaxants the pain is persistent. you have also used OTC pain medication and that has helped. You somehow feel different because of the pain. This sounds like you have a migraine headache. Migraines can be different to different people but a long persistent headache that impacts your life is be definition a migraine. I would recommend seeing your medical provider as they maybe able to do trigger point injections to the affected area and stop your pain. A good massage therapist or a good acupuncturist may give you some relief. Continue moist heat to the area which will also relax a tight muscle

In summary
1. Migraine
2. See medical provider
3. Try licensed massage therapist or acupuncturist
4. Moist heat
5. Trigger point injection

I hope I answered your question. Please contact us again if you have any additional questions.
