Brief Answer:
may be post nasal drip

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The most common causes of a persisting cough are: (1) post nasal drip- this is actually the most common cause. Some persons have a silent drip where they do not recognize the drip itself but only experience the cough

It is normally caused by allergy to some particular agents.

Treatment involves : (1)avoiding the allergen if known (2) topical steroid nasal sprays such as flonase, nasonex, nasocort. These may need a prescription
(3)oral antihistamines are also used sometimes.

It can sometimes take 2 to 4 weeks for a marked response

(2)GERD or acid reflux but this was ruled out

(3)cough related to asthma- in most persons there would be a history of asthma and the cough tends to be worse in the night and early morning though some may also have a cough throughout the day

You may want to consider the use of treatment of post nasal drip to see if this helps to reduce coughing.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
