What Causes Constant Fever And Rashes On Torso And Limbs?
Our 16 year old daughter has had a fever for three weeks. It has fluctuated from as high as 103 down to 100. She has taken a round of amoxicillin and now has a red rash/hives on her torso and now on feet, arms, hands. A blood test was taken recently to check for mumps ect. Strep was tested for and ruled out.
Any insight? Thanks, XXXXXXX

2. How is her appetite? as normal.
3. Does she have any other symptoms other than that you have quoted? Constant fever, and chest congestion. Her glands by her neck have been consistently very swollen and hard.

Could be an EBV infection or prolonged viral illness
Detailed Answer:
Hi...I have gone through the history you have provided. These are the possibilities I put forth -
1. EBV infection - Ebstein Barr Virus infection and almost all the symptoms fill in, including prolonged fever and glandular enlargement in the neck.
2. Prolonged viral illness - Highly likely with all symptoms fitting in again.
3. Hand foot mouth disease - I would in a better position to diagnose this after I see the images. Can you upload a photo of her rash, especially the one that's there on hands and feet?
4. Lymphoreticular neoplasm - But without bone pains and appetite being normal - highly unlikely. But we need to do a bone marrow aspiration and subject the marrow to histopathological examination or a lymph node biopsy need to be performed.
Kindly get back to be with photo of her rash, especially the one that's there on hands and feet and face too - as mild peri-orbital puffiness is a pointer towards towards EBV infection.
