Question: I have had a headache for 3 weeks.Back of eyes , down neck and shoulders and sinus areas around eyes.. I know the shoulders is from me tightning up and tension but the rest? I went on amoxicillin in case it was sinus related but I finished it and it is not better. No other symptoms - no dizziness, blurred vision, etc. At night it eases off so I can sleep but comes back as soon as I get up and move around. Also my ears are tingling so loud.

Brief Answer:
Imaging studies necessary.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Sinusitis is a possible explanation for your symptoms, and imaging studies such head CT are necessary to confirm or exclude it.

CT scan evaluates also any other possible intracranial cause ( aneurysm, space occupying lesions, very rare in your case since there are no other symptoms ) that may cause headaches.

Amoxicillin doesn't work always, so, if sinusitis is confirmed after imaging studies, stronger antibiotics ( ceftriaxone for example if you are not allergic to it ) should be used.

If no underlying causes found after imaging studies, consider high blood pressure, primary headaches ( tension type etc) and discuss with your primary care Doctor about treatment.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Let me know if I can assist you further.

Greetings.

I am allergic to iodine contrast and do not want to use any due. Would a CT without contrast be ok

Also does the ringing in the ears have any significance

Brief Answer:
CT without contrast is OK.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.

CT without iodine contrast is okay, and can give valuable information about your condition.

Ringing in ears in your case is likely related to sinusitis that obstructs normal flow of secretions and air between nose and middle ear.

Hope I helped you.

One more question. My mom died of cerebral hemorrhage at 55 so I guess that is on my mind. My headache is actually better today. If it were a stroke or neurological problem wouldn't I have more problems. Guess I m not sure whether to get a CAT scan or not.

Brief Answer:
Get the CT scan done.

Detailed Answer:
Hi again.

CT scan will evaluate other possible conditions such aneurysm, or small subarachnoidal hemorrhage etc, stroke results in other symptoms besides headaches.

In my opinion, sinusitis is most likely the cause of your symptoms, but, to be sure, imaging studies are necessary.

Best regards.
