What Causes Constant High Temperature In Child?
Question: My 15 yr old daughter has temparature since last 15 days. The temp is normal in the morning but rises upto 99.4* during the day and then is again in normal range nxt morning. The widal test results were s.typhi O 1:160 & s typhi. H 1:160. WBC count was 11500 ESR was 34 & Haemoglobin was 9.7.She had been given typhoid vaccine in April 2013. She is on medication with Mahacef 200 twice a day and paracetamol for fever since last 10 days.The condition is the same. How long will it take for her temperature to come in normal range throughout the day.

Since your daughter is on Mahacef 13 days and now started on OlfiPod 200 for the 2 days, the temperature is likely to come down within next few days.
The temperature is rising to 99.4, hopefully the newer addition of Oflox and Cefpodoxime will take care withing a few days.
Give paracetamol only if the temperature rises above 100 or so , so that the clinical response can be judged.
I would like to know whether your daughter has got clinical improvement like improved appetite, better sleep, feeling well ?
The clinical / symptomatic improvement is also necessary criteria along with temperature.
I would advise for the review blood tests to see whether there is improvement of Hb, WBC, ESR and urine test.

Her appetite has been normal in the last 15 days infact has increased a bit. Otherwise she feels normal as if there is no fever but when we check the temp shows around 99.2 - 99.4*.She gets tired easily. And She sleeps around 10-12 hrs a day. Actually She is having her exams from tommorow and I am really worried about her.

Typhoid has its own natural course, we just assist the body by giving medicines, the temperature will settle soon.
About tiring easily: This takes time to improve say about 3 weeks in total. As She is young and has already taken and is under good antibiotic cover, she will recover faster. She can definitely attend the examinations.
Please add on probiotics, multivitamins. Give nutritious diet as per her demands; all home-made fresh one. Give her boiled and cooled water. You may ad a Packet of Electal to one liter and to be taken intermittently to help rejuvenation.
Reassure her and everything will be fine. You do not have to tell her the temperature you notice - tell her it is normal. Moral boosting is a part of the treatment. Children read the faces of parents, so be cheerful, this helps early recovery.
