What Causes Constant Intense Heartburn, Pain Radiating In Sternum, Arm And Back?

default
Posted on Thu, 2 Jul 2015
Question: I am having constant heartburn. It is pretty intense. The pain radiates at the sternum and in the back of my arms. More the right arm. Could this be from a stent I had in my heart a couple of months ago?

Brief Answer:
Acid reflux disease is a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
Hi, I am Dr Anshul Varshney , I have read your query in detail , I understand your concern.
This is very unlikely to be from the stent that you have in your coronary arteries. This seems to be acid reflux disease that can result from Aspirin, the anti-platelet drug that you must be taking for your cardiac issues.
I would advise you to take a combination of Pantoprazole and Domperidone and to take anti flatulent and anti acidity syrup like Digene/Gelusil for symptomatic relief.
Don't consume any alcohol. Alcohol is totally prohibited even if you consume alcohol in less quantities , as even small amount of alcohol can precipitate acid reflux.
You should get an Ultrasound Abdomen and ECG to rule out any gall bladder issues and cardiac issues respectively from these investigations.
This is my personal opinion based on details available here. If you still have any other query, you may please ask me.
Stay Healthy.

Brief Answer:
Take OTC Digene

Detailed Answer:
Hi, in that case, you can take OTC Digene or Gelusil syrup that will give you relief from acid reflux. But if the pain persists, you should get an ECG done.
Good Luck.
