Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
last night I noticed a hard lump on the right side of my son s chest, half way between his sternum and nipple. It is very hard, and feels almost like a bone. Is it most likely just a variation in his bone structure? He s 4 and just had a school physical a couple of weeks ago, and I don t think it was there then.
It is difficult to comment on this without seeing him. But some prominence can be felt normally at the junction between ribs and sternum (Costo-chondral junction). You might be referring to this. If this is more prominent than usual, we have to evaluate for any calcium or vitamin D deficiency. If there is no pain or tenderness, it is unlikely to be a disease process. If you are still concerned, kindly get it examined with his pediatrician.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
