What Causes Constant Irritation In Throat?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Apr 2014
Question: I have to constantly clear my throat. I feel a moments worth of relief when I belch which seems odd to me considering its my throat that is discomforting. I am taking Flonase but it has not been effiective. My doctor just gave me a steriod shot for allergy's as well six days ago, no help. Is there anything else you need to know to diagnose a possible issue? What can I do to stop this?

Brief Answer: Take PPI and do antiseptic gargles Detailed Answer: Hi, Thanks for the query. The common causes of constant irritation in throat are post nasal drip, acid reflux, allergy any focus of infection in the head and neck region or any dental or gum problem which can be source of constant irritation. The problem from your description seems to be related to reflux. Please take a proton pump inhibitor like omeprazole for three weeks in consultation with your doctor along with avoidance of spicy, oily and junk food. Also please use an antiseptic mouth wash regularly. If the things do not improve, please consult an ENT and you may need an endoscopic examination of throat as well as upper gastrointestinal tract endoscopy. Feel free to ask another query. Regards

More information for your review.....The last couple of times I've eaten ice cream my throat has gotten very tight. Almost immediate and afterwords for twenty to thirty minutes. It's almost as if it's been difficult to breathe at times.

Brief Answer: Descriptive Detailed Answer: Thanks or the query. You may be allergic to cold and if the same thing repeats frequently, the best way is to avoid that thing. Still your constant irritation can not be correlated with these episodes are these are occasional things when you take ice cream not daily. Feel free to ask another query. Regards

Yes, I do expierence this without eating cold as well. I just notice a rapid change after eating ice cream. To add more information, I also have some issues with a dizzy/loss of focus feeling, especially when exposed to lighting changes. I am so frustrated because I don't know what the heck is going on! Thanks for your help.

Brief Answer: Descriptive Detailed Answer: Thanks for the query. Your dizzy/loss of focus feeling when exposed to light fluctuations are migraine like symptoms and a physician or neurology consultation will be more helpful. For your throat complaints, a complete ENT examination and treatment already suggested will help. Feel free to ask another query. Regards
