Hello Doctor, I am 41 years old and a female. Was diagnosed with UC in 2012 after sigmoidoscopy. Then in XXXXXXX 2013, my gastroenterologist did a colonoscopy.
I have been on Mesacol OD and Azoran 50mg twice daily along with Prednisolone since 2012. Whenever the steroid was tapered to less than 10 mg, the disease flairs up and I was again put on high dose of steroid. But at the beginning of this year when the steroids were tapered, I was feeling okay and so slowly at the beginning of XXXXXXX I stopped steroids completelety( after having taken it for 3 years) although the other two tablets still continue. went through withdrawal symptoms for a month with fever, joint pains, headache, etc.But of late, since a week and a half, I started loose stools and my doctor prescribed Normaxin twice daily before food. But it has not helped me. So what should be done now.

Hi,
Thanks for the additional information.
You probably have a flare up of ulcerative colitis.
A stool analysis and a colonoscopy may be done.
Continue taking Mesacol OD and Azoran.
Take a course of Rifaximin after discussing with your doctor.
