Posted on Mon, 5 Oct 2015
Question: I'm 7 weeks post pregnancy and my feet constantly hurt and feel swollen even though they arent. I did have terrible swelling during pregnancy and had to wear compression socks but the swelling is completely gone now but now cant walk, even my toes feel swollen and hard to bend. What could be wrong?

Brief Answer:
Can be due to low calcium levels.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The pain in the feet ans toes after a delivery is likely to be due to a calcium and vitamin D3 deficiency. Since the swelling is completely gone now, it is not likely to be due to a serious cause.
You can take mild pain killers and take calcium supplements. Doing a hot compress of the feet will also help. Do get your serum D3 levels evaluated after consulting your primary physician.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Thank you. I do apologize but ive never heard of calcium and d3 deficiency causing foot pain and numbness feeling in foot before. I tried to google it and nothing was coming out about feet. Do you think this could be more neurological than a vitamin deficiency?

Brief Answer:
Needs proper examination to find possible cause.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
Neurological cause is a less likely possibility as there is no history o a nerve injury. Methylcobalamin deficiency can cause numbness and calcium and D3 deficiency can cause bone pain that is common during breast feeding. Proper supplements will help in improvement.
Hope my answer is helpful.
