Question: I have been taking Latuda (40 mg) along with Nortriptyline (75 mg) before bed for over a week now. Last night I had two glasses of red wine. Subsequently, I'm constipated and having trouble urinating. Any connection? Also have been taking MucinexD for about a week for cold. Connection here?

Brief Answer:
Anticholinergic effects are causing urinary retention and sedation.

Detailed Answer:
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. Latuda is Lurasidone and is an antipsychotic drug. The drug is a safe drug but it is known to cause constipation in some individuals. Nortriptyline is a TCA drug and is having significant anticholinergic effects. In very high doses it is known to cause constipation, urinary retention, dryness of mouth etc side effects.

Mucinax D is an OTC drug with Guaifenacin and Pseudoephidrine. The drug though is safer but if taken with Nortriptyline, is known to potentiate constipation and urinary retention etc side effects. So most likely cause of your symptoms is concurrent use of Mucinax D and Nortriptyline.

In my opinion taking Wine with these drugs will not cause constipation or urinary retention. Though wine should be avoided with most of psychoactive drugs.

Thanks, Hope this helps. Take care
