What Causes Constipation Inspite Of Being On Pain Medication?

Question: Hi! This is XXXXXXX My e-mail is XXXX. My invoice # is XXXX. XXXX and doesn't believe in opiod painkillers. I was diagnosed with a tumor the size of a grapefruit in 1996. It was removed at the same time I had kidney failure. A year later, the tumor (benign) came back,very large and it was removed in 1997 while I was on dialysis. The surgeon removed it, and then apparantly dug into my spine to remove all the tumur this time. My spine fractured three years later. The kind of back pain I experienced during this time and after was excruciating. I could not lie in bed for more than four hours. I could not sit for more than two hours. i could walk for more than 10 min. with a walker. My partner would get up at 6:30 to go to work and he would find sittting at the dining table, crying; the pain was so bad. I was referred to a pain managemant doctor at Baylor Hospital. I am still seeing him and his staff for 11 years. He has tried many (light) opioids, but it wasn't until I was perscibed oxcontiin that I began to get relief, without acting drugged. Slowly, he had to increase the dosage to what I am on now. He saved my life! I was at the point were I could not take it anymore. I had written a question about chronic constipaton and was basically blown off. How do manage constipation when you are taking a stong pain medication (Oxycontin)?................... XXXXX.
