Question: Ok as you know I'm on microgynon 30 and have been for almost 2 weeks now. My period finished last Tuesday but I'm still bleeding. And when I went to the toilet earlier there was a wee lump of blood and it was kind of gooy also. I'm quite scared. Is this down to the pill or is it down to intercourse which I had on Thursday only for the second time. I'm quite worried and scared please help
Brief Answer:
Continue taking the pill pack without a break

Hello
Thanks for writing to us with your health concern.
So you have been bleeding since Tuesday , that makes it almost a week tomorrow right ?
Have you had any issues with prolonged periods or heavy / irregular bleeding earlier ?
I would think that you started the pill incorrectly.
As per your history you started it just pre menstrually, which is a very wrong time to take it.
I think the prolonged bleeding is more likely to be due to the pill.
Continue taking the pill pack without a break, if the bleeding does not stop within a few days you should see your doctor.
Once you have an internal checkup and a pelvic ultrasound, other gynaecological causes can be ruled out ( fibroid, polyp, Polycystic ovaries, some internal tear due to coitus ).
Then the dose of the pills would be adjusted if you are having breakthrough bleeding, it implies a less than sufficient dose of hormones.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.

Hi,
So that means your period normally lasts for a week right ?
This is most definitely due to the pill then ( break through bleeding ).
Please see your healthcare provider, and request a different brand with a higher estrogen content.
Alternatively, finish the pack and try another method of birth control.
Regards,

Detailed Answer:
Continue using the pill pack, and finish it.
This is most probably a breakthrough bleed.
ONce you finish this pack, please switchover to a different brand, or an alternative method.
As I said, the workup above is recommended.
