default
Posted on Fri, 7 Nov 2014
Question: Hello I have been having continuous Oesaphagal spasms for some five to six weeks which are getting worse. Four weeks ago my voice became hoarse now and again then slowly turned into a little voice and now I have no voice at all. I do not have a cold, or a fever, or a bad cough. (A dry cough now and again.) I take Tildiem three times a day and have started to take Paracetamol. Ant suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Inflammation of the vocal cords

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thanks for getting back

It looks like you have inflammation of the vocal cords, the situation now has nothing to do with the oesopahus.
Here is how you should go about it

1. Most often the inflammation of the vocal cords is because of a viral infection which is self limiting
2. Gargle your throat with warm salt water three times daily, for about 2-3 minutes each time
3. Tab Levocetrizine is the ideal drug to be taken at night. This will help reduce the inflammation
4. If the situation worsens or does not improve in 3 days then please approach an ENT surgeon
5. Watch out for difficulty in swallowing, this means that the inflammation is progressing onto the nerves

I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me

Regards
