What Causes Cough, Soar Throat And Fever In Children?
My 3 years old son got cough, soar throat and fever today after noon. Evening the fever increased little bit and then in night at 8pm we gave him Crocin Suspension 5ml( for Pediatric use specially for children below 5 years).
Now the fever doesn't seem getting lower down. At 11:30pm we measured the temperature and it was 101 degrees Fahrenheit.
We are planning to give him another doze of Crocin in an hour or so only if he wakes up or temperature measurement goes beyond 104 degrees Fahrenheit.
If temperature touches 104, we would give him a doze (5ml) of Meftal-P suspension.
Please suggest what may be the cause of fever/infection. Cold/Cough or anything else.

Meftal P can be given early. You do not need to wait for high temperatures.
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.
I have gone through the details. Sore throat could occur due to a bacterial or a viral infection. A bacteria called Streptococcus or a virus called Epstein Barr virus are generally the causative agent. Irrespective of the use of antibiotics, the infection generally takes 5-7 days to recover. Paracetamol (Crocin) or Mefenamic acid (Meftal P) can help in bringing down the temperature. The dose of paracetamol is 15 mg/kg/dose I doubt whether a dose of 5 ml is adequate for your child. In any case, you need not wait for a high temperature to give Meftal P. It is more effective than crocin and can be given early.
Steam inhalation and some antiallergic like levocetirizine will help in controlling the cough. Gurgling with lukewarm water will provide relief.
You would have to be patient. Consult a pediatrician if the child becomes lethargic or does not feed well.
Hope it helps.
