What Causes Cough When Breathing Deeply?
Question: Why is it when I breath in deep it automatically makes me cough? It's really weird, it's a dry cough and it's only when I inhale deeply, it feels like the air is making me cough.
Brief Answer:
Response of stretch receptors
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, thanks for your question on HCM.
There are stretch receptors in alveoli. The receptor prevent excessive stetching of alveoli.
It is actually a protective mechanism which prevent alveolar damage from deep prolong inhalation.
So when you deeply inhale your stretch receptors are stretched. And once it reach its threshold, it sends signal to brain to stop the inhalation by coughing.
So it is natural to have coughing on deep inhalation to prevent alveolar damage.
Stretch receptors are not activated and does not send signals to brain in normal breathing.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health.Thanks.
