Question: I am 28 years old female currently 7 weeks postpartum. 2 weeks age i started having crunching sound in my left knee when going up stairs and when straightening it. Its not painful when it happens and the knee doesn't feel tender or swelled. However only in 2 occasions i felt that my knee is loose when i walk. Other than that o other complaints and no history of trauma or surgery. What could it be? and will it disappear with time?

Brief Answer:
Cracking sound is normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have studied your case and I can assure you that there is nothing abnormal in cracking sound or joint feeling loose. They are very common symptoms and present in normal knee. As you have mentioned that there is no pain and swelling.
Still there is some suggestions for you.
1.Take one gram calcium daily as pregnancy can cause decrease in calcium level.
2.Avoid squatting and sitting cross leg.
3.static quadriceps physiotherapy can be started. That can be learned by physiotherapist.
4.Do not take any other medication as you must be breast feeding your child. This sound will disappear by its own.
I hope this answer will be useful for you.Let me know if there is any other followup questions.
thanks

Thank you so much for your detailed answer and suggestions. It was very useful. I just want to clarify one thing. The sound that am hearing is not the normal popping sound that i sometime get in my other joints, it as a new sound and it sounds like grinding, and it is there with every step i take when i climb the stairs. Is it normal?
