Brief Answer:
Due to osteoarthritis (OA) or spondylottic changes

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The crunching noise in the neck is the gliding of joints as you turn your neck. If your joint has been injured or becomes inflamed, the surface may thicken, creating a rubbing sound as you move. A coarser noise may indicate more advanced changes in the surfaces of one or more joints. Such changes can be caused by osteoarthritis (OA) or spondylottic changes.
OA can happen from normal wear and tear or changed joint alignment (due to an injury, or when your muscles are tense or in spasm, or from poor spine postures that have been used over the years). A physical therapy program to help with your posture and muscle balance can improve movement in your neck and may help stop the noise.
You can also have dycerin or glucosamine sulphate supplements prescribed from your doctor for a better relief.
You can do mild neck exercises in consultation with your physiotherapist.
Avoid using a pillow, watching TV or working on computer for long hours.
I hope this answers your query.

Wishing you good health.

Brief Answer:
Not fatal.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
It is not something fatal. Since there is no pain only mild and regular exercise will be sufficient for relief. In case there is pain or stiffness then do consult an orthopedician for proper treatment.
Hope my answer is helpful.
