What Causes Crying And Terrible Paranoia While On Viibryd-40?
Question: I have been on Viibryd 40 mgs. For about two weeks. I find myself waking up crying and having terrible paranoia or fear. Not of anything specific just scared and crying. I called my doctor yesterday he told me not to take it today and I have an appointment with him this afternoon. Do you think this is what is causing my fear and tears. I am scared and want to be able to function and feel good at the same time.

Hi, thanks for writing through HCM.
I have read your query and understood your concerns. I have few questions for you:
1. What do you mean by paranoia or fear? Do you feel that somebody will kill you or somebody is conspiring against you?
2. What do you mean by 'I do take several other controlled meds'? Give names of all drugs you are taking.
3. Why do you feel like scared?
The paranoia can not be due to vybrid but anxiety can be caused by it. Stop the drug as per advice of your doctor and go to visit him and follow the advice.
Give answers to my questions. I am waiting for your reply. Wish you good health.

I know I am not using paranoia in the correct form. I don't have a fear of somebody killing me or anything tragic. Fear is a better word. again I like to repeat this only happens when I wake up from sleep This happens initially when I wake up or take a nap and wake up. Or wake up from my evenings to mornings rest. I have taken antidepressants and anxiety pills for quite some time.maybe it would help if I told you my husband passed away four years ago and we were married for 38 years. I took care of him for five years one-on-one while he was ill. I take Ativan, 100 mg of Seraquel, 25 mg of Elavil. I also am in pain management and take hydrocodone 10 325 as needed. I am completely able to do my daily business and take care things this seems like it just started when I went up to the 40 milligrams of Viibryd .
Brief Answer:
Cymbalta will be better option for you

Hi, thanks for writing again. Sorry for the delay in answer.
I have read your reply. I feel that the elavil 25 mg must be given to you by pain clinic. I have a suggestion here that instead of taking elavil, you can have cymbalta 60 mg a day which helps in pain as well as depression. Elavil is a TCA antidepressant with more side effects and it's dose for depression is high like 150 to 225 mg in a day. Cymbalta is a SNRI antidepressant which helps in neuropathic pain also.
Your symptoms of confusion and fear during waking up may be normal phenomenon seen in many person called hypnopompic state which characterised by confusion, fear, anxiety or even hallucinations and short term memory problem which is transient. Sometimes when a person is taking antidepressant with benzodiazepine, they feel confusion while going to sleep or awaking from sleep and they may feel these kind of symptoms. There is no need to worry. It will subside on it's own.
You can discuss these suggestions with your doctor and follow his advice.
Hope I have answered your query. If you do not have further question then close the discussion and rate the answer.
